Labelmaker
| Human Centered Design |

A communal conversation space to identify and reflect on labeling that was collaboratively designed with Anjuli SethiRJ Sakai and the young men of Jovenes, Inc. We spent four months with various residents of Jovenes, Inc., a non-profit organization that specifically provides housing stability for homeless, at-risk young men ages 18 to 25. Labelmaker was birthed from our design research and engagement with these young men.

Design informed by Engagement

In one of our sessions with the young men of Jovenes they expressed an interest in Technology. Through some tutorials and tinkering, they created their own circuits with an on/off switch that controlled an LED light bulb within a cardboard light box.

We collectively used the light box as a platform to explore societal labels that we have encountered and whether or not we identified with or rejected them.

As we each illuminated our labels, the group organically engaged in rich dialogue and conservation. Thus Labelmaker was birthed out of these sessions by incorporating various elements we discovered while working with Jovenes, Inc.
